Do you need followers to get cast in AI ads?

By Tim NaglePublished October 9, 2026

No. Companies choose people for their look, style and fit for a campaign. Follower count plays no part, and you don't need modelling or acting experience. This guide explains what companies actually look for, how to make your profile stronger and what to expect once you are on the roster.

Why don't followers matter?

A company licensing your likeness is paying to use your face in its own advert, not for your audience. It is not asking you to post anything. So the size of your following does not change what it gets.

Influencer deals pay for reach: you post, and your followers see it. Likeness licensing is different. The company's own team or agency makes the advert from your licensed likeness and runs it on the company's own channels. Your followers never need to see it. That is why HyperKnown does not use follower counts in casting, and why people with no public profile at all can be cast.

Experience works the same way. There is no filming day, so you do not need to act, pose or perform on a set. What matters is that you look right for the campaign and that a company can trust you have agreed to the use. If you do have a large following, that is fine too. It is simply not what a company is paying for when it licenses your likeness.

What do companies look for?

  • Fit for the market. Companies adapt adverts for many countries and audiences, so they look for people who belong in the market the advert runs in. Read licensing your likeness from any country to see why that matters.
  • Clear, recent photos. A well-lit photo of your face is what companies notice first, and it is the reference for your studio portrait.
  • Clear content limits. Honest, specific limits mean the briefs that reach you are ones you might actually accept.
  • Prompt replies. Campaigns run to deadlines. Reviewing briefs quickly helps companies keep to their schedule.

Look, style and fit cover a lot of ground. A campaign might want someone who looks like a nurse, a new parent, a student or a small business owner in a particular city. Everyday faces are often exactly what a brief asks for.

How do I make my profile stronger?

  1. Use a clean, recent photo in good light. Shoulders up, face clear and no heavy filters. Daylight from a window works well.
  2. Make sure it is only you. One face in the photo, so companies know exactly who they are looking at.
  3. Fill in your content limits honestly. Record what you will not appear in. HyperKnown checks every brief against those limits before it reaches you.
  4. Complete every step. Your profile reaches companies only after you sign the agreement, record your permission video, verify your ID and pass HyperKnown's review.
  5. Keep your photo current. If your look changes a lot, update your photo so companies see you as you are now.

You do not need a professional photographer. A clear phone photo in good light works. When you add a photo, HyperKnown checks it on your phone before it uploads and tells you if it looks blurry, too dark or heavily filtered.

What happens after a company picks you?

The company sends you a brief. It shows who the company is, what the product is, the markets and channels, how long the use lasts and your exact fee. HyperKnown has already checked it against your content limits. You read it and decide. If you accept and sign, the company's own team or agency makes the advert from your licensed likeness. There is nothing for you to film, post or edit. If you decline, the request stops there and the company is not charged.

Will I definitely get booked?

No one can promise that. Fees vary by brief, and bookings are not guaranteed. You'll see every brief and decide.

Some people receive a brief soon after joining. Others wait months, or never receive one, because no campaign has needed their look yet. That is normal for casting of any kind. Treat licensing as an occasional opportunity, not a regular income.

When a brief does arrive, you see your exact fee on each brief before you accept, along with the campaign, markets, channels and term. You can accept or decline, and declining is never held against you.

How do I get started?

Apply to the roster. It takes about ten minutes on your phone and costs nothing: HyperKnown never charges talent to join, verify or be listed. Before you sign, read the licensing agreement so you understand the permissions you give. You can see the full process on the For people page, and if safety is on your mind, read is it safe to license your face for AI.
